The aim of the 'Friends' is to :-

Promote interest in the Archives by :-

a) transcribing and indexing the records to make them easier to access

b) holding public meetings with talks about the work of the 'Friends' and archives in general.

c) touring Archive centres and conservation workshops in other parts of the country.

Preserve the Archives by

(a) forming an emergency aid standby team.

(b) financing special conservation work from time- to- time.

c)cleaning, repairing and reboxing fragile records in preparation for their eventual professional conservation.

d) collecting appropriate archival material- written, pictorial or oral.

Develop the archives by

a) publishing the 'Friends' computer generated indexes and other finding aids

b) issuing regular ' Newsletters' recording the 'Friends' activities and other Archive news

c) collecting appropriate archival material - written, pictorial or oral
